DURHAM — No injuries were reported in an early morning house fire at 552 Quaker Meetinghouse Road on Sunday.

According to fire Chief Bill St. Michel, the fire apparently spread from a fireplace into a nearby wall at the home of Dennis Strout. The family was awakened at 5 a.m. by the smell of smoke in the house.

Durham firefighters assisted by the Freeport Fire Department were at the scene for three hours after the fire was quelled.

St. Michel estimated damage to the old one and one-half story, wood-frame farmhouse at $5,000 and said the occupants were able to remain in the home once the fire was extinguished. The house was insured, St. Michel said.

Lisbon Falls Fire Department filled in at the Durham fire station.
