Gene B. Allen Sr.

AUBURN – Gene B. Allen, Sr., 82, a resident of Jay, passed away Thursday, March 20, 2025 at Andwell Hospice House in Auburn, surrounded by his loving family.

He was born on Jan. 14, 1943, in North Jay, the son of Charles Allen, Sr. and Myrtle (Smith) Allen. Gene attended school in Jay and played on the first Little League Team in the area, “The Jay Red Sox”.

On June 6, 1970, at the Bradbury Memorial Chapel in Canton, he married Ann Conant. Throughout the years, Gene worked for Diaz Construction, International Paper, and loved switching trailers at the Otis Mill. He later started his own company, becoming the owner of Gene’s Trucking.

He was a member of the Jay – Livermore Falls Hunting Club and a former member of the Jay and Canton Snowmobile Clubs. Gene enjoyed anything to do with the outdoors, hunting, fishing, camping, snowmobiling, and 4-wheeling. He was able to do all the activities he loved at his camp in Rangeley that he built 23 years ago. He spent many nights by the fire telling stories and days on Rangeley Lake catching the “big one”.

His love for his beagles ran deep. He enjoyed breeding and training the best hunting dogs around. Another passion of his was his garden and sharing the fruits of his and Ann’s labor with family and friends. He always grew the largest sunflowers around.

He was an avid sports fanatic and loved following his children’s and grandchildren’s sporting events. Gene’s extreme passion for the outdoors and zest for life will surely be carried on through his children and grandchildren who also share this same passion thanks to him.

He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Ann Allen of Jay; his son, Gene Allen, Jr. (Debra) of Jay, his daughters Lisa Jackson (Robert) of Carthage, and Peggy Giroux (Steve) of Portland; seven grandchildren, Brenda, Justin, Jacob, Taylor, Grant, Tyler and Sydney; eight great-grandchildren; his brothers Charles Allen, Jr. (Bernice) and Robert Allen (Mary), his sisters Patricia Ferland and Juanita Crafts.

He was predeceased by his parents; his grandson, Lance Allen; and brothers-in-law Roger Ferland and Charlie Crafts.

The family would like to thank the staff at Andwell Hospice for their care and compassion for Gene and support to his family.
