Leo L. Pepin
SCARBOROUGH – Leo L. Pepin, born Sept. 29, 1935, in Lisbon, passed away peacefully at the Gosnell Hospice House on Friday April 11, 2025, reuniting at last with his beloved wife, Venise Pepin, who predeceased him 26 years ago.
A proud Mainer through and through, Leo lived a life rich in love, service, and quiet dedication. He and Venise adopted their only daughter, Michelle, with whom Leo shared his deep love for the outdoors. From fishing trips to walks in the woods, he spent countless hours teaching, guiding, and shaping her into the person she is today; a legacy he was endlessly proud of.
Leo served his country honorably in the United States Army, stationed in Germany, where he commanded a tank regiment. He often recalled those days with pride and humor, especially his fondness for the fine German beer he came to love during his time there.
Upon returning home, Leo dedicated over four decades to his craft as a skilled hand sewer in the Lewiston-Auburn shoe industry, where his steady hands and work ethic left an impression on all who worked beside him.
Leo’s greatest joy in later life came from his family. He was a devoted grandfather to Grace and Ben and a caring father-in-law to Michelle’s partner, Jeanne, all of Cambridge, Mass. He rarely let a day go by without calling to check in, share a laugh, or offer his wisdom and love. His calls were a constant reminder of how deeply he cared.
He also leaves behind his devoted cousin, Joline, whose compassion and care were invaluable in his later years. Her presence brought comfort and strength to Leo, especially as she helped manage his medical needs with tireless dedication.
Leo will be remembered for his sharp wit, his fierce love for family, and his unwavering loyalty to those he cared for. His life was a quiet testament to love, duty, and perseverance. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
