Timothy William Leahy
LEWISTON – On Feb. 18, 2025, we lost our beloved father, son, brother, and friend. Timothy William Leahy passed away unexpectedly at age 60 in Lewiston. Tim was known for his big heart and generous spirit, who was quick with a smile and always eager to support his friends and family.
Tim was born in 1964 in Bristol, Conn., and the young Leahy family lived in many places as his father pursued economic development and anti-poverty projects, including Atlanta, Ga.; Columbus, Ohio; Severna Park, Md.; and Mayaguez, Puerto Rico. It was in Gary, Ind., where Tim’s father was Chief of Staff to the mayor and the family met Harry Belafonte, Muhammad Ali, Michael Jackson, and civil rights leaders.
Park Forest, in the south suburbs of Chicago, became the home to the Leahy family and was influential on Tim, as his family chose the area because of its racial, cultural, and economic diversity. It was where Tim saw his mother earn her education degree and teach in the Matteson School District. Tim and his younger brother Jon were popular guests in her kindergarten classes.
Tim was a hard worker from an early age, starting out as a paperboy for the Chicago Tribune and the Sun Times and then as a busboy at Olympia Fields Country Club. He worked a variety of jobs through high school and college, including digging underground pools and managing a gas station.
Tim was a celebrated varsity high school and college baseball catcher and played soccer as halfback enforcer at Cornell College, Iowa. He was a member of the MILT fraternity founded by the first dean of the college. He graduated with a Business Degree and launched a career in Sales where he achieved significant success.
Tim met his wife Samantha, at Cornell and they had two lovely girls, Keara and Ryann. Tim’s sales management career led Tim and his young family to various parts of the US, settling in Denver, Colo., which became their home. While in Colorado, Tim volunteered with the Boys and Girls Club, where he mentored at-risk youth.
In 2000, Tim and Jon traveled to Ireland to honor their late father. They traveled the country and played at many renowned golf courses. Tim befriended innkeepers and caddies along the way with his gentle and caring manner. Tim relished his family’s golf legacy, as his grandfather William Leahy served as a teaching and golf club professional in Middlebury, Conn. An exemplary golfer, Tim enjoyed the competition and rivalry and regularly won the “Leahy Cup” from his brother and father.
Tim was a devoted father to his girls, coaching their soccer, softball, and basketball teams, treating each girl with a unique and appropriate nickname. He relished his daughters’ accomplishments, college degrees, and kind hearts. He will be there in spirit when his first grandchild is born in June.
Tim moved to Maine in 2012 and enjoyed playing golf with his brother, taking his beloved Chesapeake Bay Retriever, Maximus, to the beach, and picked up oil and watercolor painting as a hobby. He met his partner, Elizabeth Turcotte and they shared trips to Popham Beach, political discussions, and their cat Coco. Tim lovingly cared for Lizzie through her battle with cancer, losing her in 2022.
Passionate about golf, the Chicago Bears, and a lifelong Democrat, Tim was nostalgic until the end and enjoyed reminiscing about his Rich Central High School classmates and the many friendships he created and nurtured over the years. Tim had a gift for connecting with people, for knowing and remembering their stories, and for sharing genuine interest and affection. He loved his girls and his family with all his heart. Proud and protective of all his family and friends, Tim’s memory of kindness and generosity will live on as an example for us to strive to replicate.
Tim is deeply missed by his two daughters and their husbands, Keara and Josh Pawley and Ryann and Sean Alarid; his younger brother Jonathan and his partner Stacy Rodenberger; Tim’s mother and her husband, Linda Leahy Daigler and David Daigler; and loving cousin, Mary Early. Tim was predeceased by his father, Donald William Leahy.
