Margaret “Peggy” Poskus

CASCO – Margaret “Peggy” Poskus, 87, passed away peacefully on April 25, 2025, at her home in Country Village Assisted Living.

Born on Nov. 9, 1937, in North Bridgton, Peggy grew up in her beloved hometown where she sang in many choirs and graduated from Bridgton Academy.

Peggy’s journey took her to Connecticut and later to Long Island, N.Y., where she dedicated 33 years of service to Nickerson Corporation. After retiring to her lake house in Hartford, she became very active in town government, notably participating in the first all-women Selectmen committee in the country.

Peggy had a deep love of reading, playing cards, coin collecting and swimming in the lake. She cherished the loons, actively participating in local loon counts. She was a devoted grandmother and mother, leaving behind a legacy of love and involvement.

Peggy is survived by her siblings Alberta Estes and Arnold Packard; her children Ron Gilbert (spouse Karen Gilbert), Terri Wahnowsky (spouse Harold Wahnowsky), and Beth Poskus (spouse Gary Mehr); and her grandchildren Justin Gilbert, Amanda Gilbert, Zachary Gilbert, Nicole Wahnowsky, Michaela Penafiel, and Ryan Penafiel.

She was predeceased by her husband, Richard Poskus; her brother, Bill Packard; her son, Michael Jackson; her granddaughter, Mehgyn Wahnowsky, and her grandson, Gregory Wahnowsky.

The family will hold visitation on Tuesday, April, 29 from 11 a.m. to 12:45 p.m. with a service at 1 p.m. at the Chandler Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 45 Main St., South Paris, with refreshments to follow.
