Rev. Lawrence W. Shaw
RUMFORD – Rev. Lawrence W. Shaw, 90, passed away on April 30, 2025, at the Rumford Hospital.
Larry was born in Mexico, Maine to Wilfred and Ola (Weeks), Shaw on May 24, 1934. He graduated from Mexico High School in 1951. One of eight children he loved being raised within a large family including his many cousins.
He served two years in the Navy before meeting and marrying the love of his life, Gloria Dorion. They were married on Oct. 31, 1954. They celebrated 67 years together before her passing in 2022. Together they raised six children.
He and Gloria moved to Connecticut in 1956 and spent 14 years there. He began his ministry in the inner city of Bridgeport before moving back to Rumford in 1970. Larry established the “Church of Good News” in Rumford and pastored there for 40 years. He then began “His Gathering Place” which served the area for an additional 10 years.
Larry had a passion for sharing the gospel around the world. He traveled to China, Honduras and several other countries between 1983 – 2013. He attended the Chinese Gospel Church in Cumberland and developed many lifelong friendships. Most recently attending and serving at Praise Assembly of God in Rumford. He lived his life ministering, loving and spiritually helping people in this area.
Many of his greatest times were at New Harbor and Pemaquid, Maine, spent with extended family for nearly 40 years. He enjoyed fishing, taking long rides to see moose, and one of his greatest accomplishments is that he lived long enough to see his great great grandson, Rustyn Shaw
Larry is survived by his sons, Steven and wife Sandy of Sabattus, Jonathan Shaw and companion Natasha Hansen of Arizona, Christopher and wife Ronda of Rumford; his daughter Mary Bradley and companion Todd Wardwell of Mexico and daughter-in-law Liz Shaw of Indiana.
He is also survived by his grandchildren, Dave, Andy, Craig, Matt, Liz, Dalton and wife Taylor, Michelle and husband Josh and Kevin and wife Amy; great grandchildren,Cameron and wife Mariah, Cidney, Layla, Noah and Jaidyn. great great grandson Rustyn; sisters Margaret from Maryland and Betty Ann and Gene from Virginia; and many nieces and nephews that he loved very much
He was predeceased by his wife, Gloria; sons, Larry David and Charles; great grandson, Nickolas; his parents; siblings Mary, Lillian, Robert, Beatrice and Melbourne.
The family would like to thank the staffs of Rumford Community Home, Farmington Hospital Oncology Dept., Beacon Hospice and Rumford Hospital for their end-of-life care given to dad.

Funeral services will be held 10 a.m. on Thursday May 8, 2025, at the Praise Assembly of God Church on Congress St in Rumford. Friends are invited to call at the Meader & Son Funeral Home, 3 Franklin St., Rumford, on Wednesday from 3 – 7 p.m.
