Kurt Campbell

TURNER – It is with a heavy heart that we announce the passing of Kurt Campbell on May 5, 2025, at the age of 71, after a long, hard-fought battle with cancer.

He was born on March 8, 1954 in Lynnfield Mass., to Glenwood and Betty (Verrill) Campbell. He grew up in a loving home with his three brothers, Matthew, Dean and Thomas. Losing his dad at a young age, his single, hard-working mother instilled family values and the importance of supporting each other.

He attended Rangeley and Auburn schools, the University of Maine in Fort Kent (UMFK) where he studied English, and Central Maine Community College where he studied in the electrical program. During his time at UMFK, he was a brother in Kappa Delta Phi National Fraternity, Rho Chapter where he made life-long friends.

He worked at Lepage Bakery from 1975 to 1985; Webster Engineering as general manager until 2005; then became co-owner of Motor Power, Inc. in Lewiston.

Kurt may have left this earth too soon, but he lived his life to the fullest. His departure will leave an unfillable void for so many including… his devoted wife, Rachel of 44 years, who not only was his life partner, but his rock throughout their entire marriage. Their personalities complimented each other perfectly and they continued the Campbell family values with their two children, Kelly and Sean, who Kurt would say were his greatest accomplishments in life. They made him a proud Dad and he loved them with every bit of his being. His grands, Mackenzie and Logan who were his entire world. Kurt’s face lit up hearing “Papa!” and he cherished the role he played in their lives. They brought out the fun-and-spirited soul in him.

He was a 32nd-Degree Master Mason; raised at Ancient Brother Lodge in Auburn. Strong and lasting friendships were also made at Kora Shrine where he’d been a member since 1990. Kurt wore his Fez proudly representing the Shrine, especially when it was with his brethren of Second Section Unit.

Other loves of Kurt’s included the Red Sox and attending Blues music festivals, but his all-time passion was camping. His furry companion, Jake, tagged along on all their weekend excursions, as their camper was their second home…including pink flamingos! Kurt’s favorite times were grilling steaks on an open fire while sipping a Corona with lime; whether it was just with Rachel watching a sunset, with the Grands cooking marshmallows, or with a campsite full of Shriners sharing fun and fellowship.

Kurt was preceded in death by both of his parents; and nephew, Christopher Campbell.

His memory will live on with his wife, Rachel of Turner; his daughter, Kelly Pruett and husband Mitchell Pruett of Berwick and grandchildren Mackenzie and Logan Pruett; and his son, Sean Campbell of Turner. He is also survived by three brothers, Matthew and wife Cathy of Portland, Dean and wife Sharon of Minot and Thomas and wife JoAnne of Auburn; 10 nieces and nephews; as well as their spouses and children.

Above all, Kurt’s life could be defined by the love of his family and friends. May we all find comfort in the memories and everlasting love that he leaves behind.

Family and friends are invited to attend a public Masonic service and “Remember that time with Kurt” party on June 8 at 3 p.m. at the Kora Shrine Center, 11 Sabattus St., Lewiston. Dress casual and Hawaiian shirts are encouraged.
