Betty A. Brown
AUBURN – Betty Ann Brown, 88, of Norway, daughter of the late Adria Ferguson Smith and Harold Robert Smith, passed away the afternoon of May 13, 2025 at the Hospice House in Auburn.
Born in Medway, Maine, she came to Lewiston in 1940 and moved to Auburn in 1945. She graduated from Edward Little High School in 1955, from the University of Maine – Orono in 1959 and received her master’s degree in Adult Education from University of Maine – Portland/Gorham in 1981. She taught secondary education in Utica, N.Y., Concord, N.H. and in local Maine schools. She also taught in the Adult Education field and had needlework classes in her home and for the YWCA. She worked for the State of Maine in both Human Services and the Labor Department.
She leaves two daughters, Kim Brown of Lewiston and Kelly Pitman of Rumford; two granddaughters; and a great-granddaughter.
There will be no services. Private burial will be in the Ferguson family plot at Litchfield Plains Cemetery at a later date.
The family wishes to thank the providers at Pace Ambulance, Stephen’s Memorial Hospital and The Hospice House for their wonderful care and attention.
