Helen Joline Boulanger

FREEPORT – Helen Joline Boulanger, 78, of Freeport, peacefully passed away on May 21, 2025, after a long and courageous battle with cancer, surrounded by her loving family. Born and raised in Lewiston, she was the daughter of Larry and Rita Violette and graduated from Lewiston High School in 1965.

Helen later moved to Lisbon Falls, where she devoted her life to raising her two children, Marc and Carey-Ann. Eventually, she settled in Freeport, where she remained an active and engaged member of her community until her passing. She particularly cherished her role as a “lunch lady” at Freeport Middle School, where she got to see her granddaughter Shea daily!

A devoted mother, grandmother, and friend, Helen enjoyed camping on Hermit Island with her family, spending time in Rangeley, gardening, reading, and solving puzzles. One of her greatest joys was sharing ice cream with her loved ones. Her Catholic faith was a cornerstone of her life; she regularly attended Mass and served as a Eucharistic Minister for many years.

Helen was also a passionate volunteer, contributing her time and energy to various organizations throughout Maine, including the Lioness Club, Daughters of Isabella, the Dempsey Center, and the Freeport Community Center, as well as participating in several book clubs. Her spirit of service left an indelible mark on the communities she touched.

She is survived by her son, Marc Boulanger, and fiancée Vanessa of Pownal; her daughter, Carey-Ann Walker, and husband Brett of Exeter, N.H.; and her grandchildren, Shea Boulanger, Cameron Walker, and Brandon Walker, along with extended family and many friends whose lives she enriched.

A memorial celebration of Helen’s life will take place on Friday, June 6, 2025, from 2:30 to 5 p.m. in the Bradley Room at the Freeport Community Center, located at 53 Depot Street, Freeport.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made in Helen’s memory to Winslow Park and Campground, one of her favorite places, or to the Dempsey Center in Lewiston.
