“Would you believe that seven police boats are closing in on us right now?” asks Agent Maxwell Smart of his captor. “Would you believe six?” And with that, The Theater Project’s 40th season continues with “Get Smart,” presented by the Young Company and directed by Wendy Poole.

“Get Smart,” adapted by Christopher Sergel, based on the series created by Mel Brooks and Buck Henry, is the original secret agent spoof that follows the hapless agent Maxwell Smart as he tries to foil the plans of the mastermind behind the evil group KAOS. Magnificently assisted by beautiful Agent 99, Smart proceeds from one blunder to another, leaving audiences to wonder — will he make it in time to save the day?

“After a few years of working on some dark, yet poignant plays with the Young Company, it has been extremely fun working on “Get Smart,”  says director Wendy Poole. “The kids are having a great time being as goofy as they possibly can. They make me laugh — and what a great way to open our 40th anniversary season!”

With lighting and set design by JP Gagnon, and costume and prop design by Jen Roe, “Get Smart” is a fun, bright comedy that all ages will enjoy.

The play is being performed through Nov. 6. Performance times are 7:30 p.m., Fridays and Saturdays at 2 p.m. Sundays. All tickets are suggested $12 and are available online anytime at theaterproject.com, or by calling the box office at 729-8584.
