Hulda Marie (Wilcox) Newell

DOVER-FOXCROFT – The heavens gained a bright star on June 14, 2025, when Hulda Marie (Wilcox) Newell passed away at Hilltop Manor in Dover-Foxcroft.

Marie was born in Caribou, Maine on July 29, 1934, the daughter of Glenwood William Wilcox and Evelyn Mary (Pooler) Wilcox of Woodland, Maine. Marie spent her early years on the family farm in Woodland. As a young woman she met and married Robert “Bob” Newell, an US Air Force veteran stationed at Loring Air Force Base. Together they had their only child, Robert Newell.

During her later years Marie moved to Lewiston with her mother and son. She had a passion for sewing, knitting and enjoyed volunteering at The Root Cellar, specializing in helping immigrant children and their families acclimate to the community. Marie was a long-time member of the First Assembly of God and held great admiration for Pastor Donald Cougle and his lovely wife, Cheryl.

Marie is survived by her beloved son, Robert Newell of Los Angeles; her sister, Dawn Ellen (Wilcox) Soucy and her wife, Chris of Guilford, Conn.; niece, Carrie Ponte of Thomaston; nephew, Daniel Wilcox of San Francisco; as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

The family would like to offer a special thanks to all caregivers at Hill Top Manor, Dover-Foxcroft. These folks are a rare and exceptional team providing Marie a loving family away from home for the last of her days here on earth.

Arrangements are in the care of the Lary Funeral Home. Messages of condolence and memories may be expressed at http://www.laryfuneralhome.com.
