LEWISTON — Paving over the water main work on Campus Avenue will close a section of the road to two-way traffic beginning Tuesday.
“The water main is installed and operational and it’s been pressure-tested,” Wes Enman, engineering technician for the city, said. “It’s all ready to go. Now we need to pave that trench.”
Enman said crews need to remove up to 4 inches of gravel to make room for the new asphalt.
“That’s going to make it pretty difficult to travel,” he said.
The road will be closed to two-way traffic Tuesday, Nov. 1, between Central Avenue and Sabattus Street. One-way traffic will be allowed from Central Avenue to Sabattus Street.
“Where there’s a cross street or an entrance to a parking lot, we’re going to be hand-paving some ramps to give people access over the trench,” Enman said. “They will be able to get in and out of those parking lots.”
The work is scheduled to wrap up Friday, depending on the weather.
