DEAR SUN SPOTS: With these very warm summer temperatures upon us, it would be great to have a list of cooling centers in the area. If something has already been published, I missed it. I want to be able to spread the word to folks who need the information and also how to cool off in a good, safe way. — Judy, no town
ANSWER: So far, I have Auburn Community Resource Center, at 121 Mill St., Auburn Senior Community Center, at 48 Pettengill Park Road, Auburn Public Library, at 49 Spring St., and Auburn Recreation Hasty Gymnasium, at 48 Pettengill Park Road.
In Lewiston, at Redemption Hill Church, 64 Lisbon St. (entrance of Park St.), and Kaydenz Kitchen, at 45 Park St.
I’m sure there are others, so if you know of more I can add to this list, please let me know.
With high temperatures and humidity across the state, if you’re home and don’t have air conditioning, find some way to beat the heat at https://www.maine.gov/dhhs/heat.
One idea includes setting a bowl of ice in front of a fan, with towels underneath. It will blow the chill coming off the ice into the room. Of course, stay hydrated, spritz yourself with cool water and refrain from doing anything strenuous if you can.
