DEAR SUN SPOTS: Come together with friends, old and new, to celebrate the power of community, collaboration, and shared purpose at our Gather to Grow Celebration at The Gathering Garden, 208 Bates St. in Lewiston, on Wednesday, Aug. 6, from 4:40 to 6:30 p.m. The rain date is Thursday, Aug 7 at the same time.

We will reflect on the work that led us to this moment, honor the community that helped us reach this milestone, and look toward our collective future.

There will be delicious food featuring seasonal ingredients prepared by Haali’s Halaal, a burgeoning catering business dedicated to providing high-quality, fully halal meals. This will be a space to build connection, solidarity, and joy — just like we’ve always done, and will continue to do, together.

Please RSVP by Monday, July 28, to help us with food preparation and dietary considerations.

Look for future email(s) with a more detailed schedule of the evening and/or a rain plan. We can’t wait to see you there! — The Gather to Grow Team, Lewiston

ANSWER: After 26 years of growing community through food, the St. Mary’s Nutrition Center has become an independent nonprofit organization, Gather to Grow (GtG).

DEAR SUN SPOTS: Regarding the letter about the steps in yesterday’s Sun Spots, several years ago, I needed a platform with steps as this reader described after I had a sliding glass door set into a living room wall. I called a nearby mobile home park and they recommended a carpenter that they worked with when new mobile homes were positioned in the park. It was the perfect solution. A carpenter came and built a custom-made tiny porch for me. He also had several sizes of ready-made outside steps with platforms and railings to choose from. — No name, Lisbon

ANSWER: That’s a great tip! Another idea is to look on the Nextdoor App (https://nextdoor.com/). If you aren’t a member, log in with your name and email and you can let folks in your own neighborhood know what you’re looking for and also get recommendations from others.

I have found handypeople, housecleaners, landscape contractors, and more on this site. It’s another great resource to have in your “toolbox.”

DEAR SUN SPOTS: I saw that one of your readers is asking about doll appraisal (July 9 Sun Spots). I am a doll expert and live in Lovell. I have been buying and selling dolls for 25 years. Your reader can reach me at 595-3014. My name is Linda Candelora and my business is ABC Cybersell Inc. You are welcome to keep my information on file. Enjoy your day! — Linda, Lovell

ANSWER: This is why I love Sun Spots so much! There are so many kind people in Sun Spots Land, wanting to help. In the Rolodex you go, Linda!
