Leona R. Brooks

JAY – Leona R. Brooks, 93, of Jay, peacefully passed into eternal joy with her Lord and Savior and heavenly family, June 7, 2025, at Orchard Park Rehabilitation and Living Center. She was born in Jay on Dec. 9, 1931, the daughter of Wallace and Nettie Bryant of Jay.

Leona married Keith M. Brooks on Jan. 13, 1951, enjoying 73 years of married life together, until Keith’s passing in 2024. They started their lives together in Wilton and in 1953, purchased a farm at Bean’s Corner in Jay where they resided for 65 years.

Leona enjoyed many interests including baking and cooking, gardening, canning and freezing vegetables, sewing, photography, cribbage, cross country skiing, singing and playing the organ. She loved animals, including her many Siamese cats, and Belted Galloway cattle. Picture taking was a passion. Throughout the years, she organized a library of photo albums.

Leona enjoyed entertaining in her home. She regularly had family and friends over for a delicious meal. Holiday celebrations at home, especially Christmas, when the children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren gathered to exchange gifts, play games and share a meal were her most favorite time.

Leona and Keith enjoyed traveling to Canada with family and friends, visiting New Brunswick, Nova Scotia, Cape Breton and Prince Edward Island many times through the years. When Keith retired in 1992, they spent several winters together in Spring Hill, Fla.

Leona was a member of the Bean’s Corner Baptist Church where she sang in the choir. She was also a member of the North Jay Grange.

Leona is survived by three sons, Emerson (Nancy), Clinton (Pam), and Thomas (Beth); seven grandchildren, Kristal, Amanda, Rebecca, Curtis, Christopher, Alison, and Ashlee; 11 great-grandchildren, Lexi, Brittney, Kyle, Chance, Connor, Haylee, Julia, Noah, Brooke, Brady, Serenity; two great-great-grandchildren, Cashton and Lainey; several nieces and nephews; and sister-in-law, Sylvia Richards.
