BETHEL — Property owners and residents of Newry, Hanover and Bethel can now purchase a $10 entry sticker for access to the Tri-Town Transfer Station, located at 1069 Mayville Road. Stickers will be required for entry starting Sept. 1 following a phase-in period.

After obtaining the primary sticker, residents may purchase a “Temporary Vehicle Pass” for an additional $5. Both stickers are available at the Newry, Hanover and Bethel town offices. Proof of residency is required.

Each sticker, valid for two years, will be color-coded and include the vehicle’s license plate number. Stickers must be displayed on the driver’s side window.

These changes were approved by the Tri-Town Transfer Station Committee this spring and later adopted by each town’s select board and at town meetings in May and June. The new policies are now in effect.

The original Tri-Town Transfer Station agreement, written in 2000, was intended to be updated every five years. This is the first major revision in 25 years. Previously, stickers cost $5 and had no expiration date.

At the July 16 Bethel Select Board meeting, Town Manager Sharon Jackson reported that Newry Town Manager Loretta Powers had sold the first sticker earlier that day.

Tri-Town Transfer Station, 1069 Mayville Road in Bethel, is open Wednesday, Saturday and Sunday 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
