Evelyn Elizabeth (Fritz) Piper

SOUTH PARIS – It is with great sadness that we announce the sudden passing of Evelyn at the Maine Veterans Home in South Paris, Maine, on July 18. 2025.

Evelyn was born in Portland, Maine, March 7, 1936, to Clayton and Elizabeth Hannaford Fritz. She grew up in Welchville, attended Oxford area schools and graduated from the class of 1954. She had many cherished school friends.

She met the love of her life, Donald (Brad) Piper, the summer of 1953 at the Oxford Roller Rink and they married on Sept. 14, 1956. They enjoyed traveling to many places including Prince Edward Island and Puerto Rico.

She worked at the Marcel Paper mill where she met and maintained several long-term friendships. They moved several times during Brad’s career, but she was the happiest when they returned to Norway where she reconnected with classmates and met some lovely neighbors who became close friends.

Evie was known as a social butterfly. She would talk to everyone! She made people feel like they mattered, and she was always curious to hear their story. She also had a love for music and would always take the opportunity to attend outdoor concerts (where she met many new friends) and she never missed the musical performances at the Veterans Home, if there was music her feet were tapping.

Evie had a great life, and it brings us peace knowing she is reunited with Brad, as well as many family and friends.

She is survived by several nieces, and nephews and some very dear friends.

She was predeceased by her husband Brad, parents and brothers Eugene and Bobby Fritz.

The family of Evelyn would like to Thank the Staff, Admin, Facilities and the many residents at Maine Veterans Home who showed love, support and care while she was living at the home. She thought of all of you as family. We would like to Thank Richard for his love and support.

Evie, Thank you for the memories. We’ll miss you. Love Bruce and Rhonda GO CELTICS!

The family will hold a graveside service on Tuesday August 5, at 10:30 a.m. at Gracelawn Cemetery, Auburn.
