Waldron (Sonny) Rowe

CHESHIRE, Conn. – Waldron (Sonny) Rowe, 87, passed away on Aug. 4, 2025, at MidState Medical Center in Meriden. He was the son of Alton and Thelma Rowe and grew up in Jay, Maine. He was thankful to have been raised in a home where Christ was honored and at an early age, he followed the admonition of Acts 16:31, “Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and you will be saved”.

He married Deborah Fulton in 1974 in the church where they both grew up and were both active. Sonny worked with young people in the church managing a softball team and organizing a bowling league. He served as Sunday School Superintendent and a Deacon for many years. He also served on a pastoral search committee. At an early age, Sonny learned to play the trumpet. Over the years he played the trumpet in church, usually with the pianist for the congregational singing, and periodically as a solo instrumental special. He also sang bass on occasion in various men’s quartets.

After graduating from high school, he worked for the G.H. Bass Shoe Company for 42 years. He served two years in the Army that included 15 months in Germany.

He was a fan of the Atlanta Braves ever since they were the Boston Braves and a fan of the New York Giants. After he retired, he started vegetable gardening. He enjoyed doing paint by number paintings that were very detailed and took months to complete. He was devoted to his cat, Smokie.

Sonny is survived by his wife of 50 years, Deborah Rowe; a sister, Lorraine Allaby of Rhode Island; a niece, Heather Buckley, a nephew, Craig Allaby, and their spouses; and grandnephews, Steven and James.

A memorial service will be planned at a later date.
