John “Jack” Arthur Holt

PERU – With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of John “Jack” Arthur Holt, who departed this life into the hands of his heavenly father on Nov. 26, 2024, at the age of 89, surrounded by his loving family, friends, dedicated caregivers, and his loyal canine and feline companions, after courageously enduring a long illness.

John “Jack” faced his health challenges with strength, resilience, and grace, never allowing them to define his spirit. His determination, kindness, and unwavering desire to live to be 100 and make others smile with small witty gestures along the way, were a source of inspiration to all who knew him.

A proud veteran of the United States Marine Corps, John “Jack” served his country with honor and dedication. His commitment to service continued throughout his life as he continued to be a pillar of strength and compassion in his community, always ready to lend a hand, share a story, or offer advice on how to fix something, sometimes with creativity. He was known for his resourcefulness, love of tools and gadgets, warm sense of humor and his passion for fishing, hunting and training his loyal companions; his dogs Shadow, Lucky, Blue and Chocolate.

John “Jack” grew up in Rumford and resided in Peru for the remainder of his life. He is lovingly remembered by his family: children, June Holman and Tammy and husband Bruce Bean; grandchildren, Lisa Holman, Kayla Mullen, Miranda Holman, Nicole Martin and Alan Hadley; and great grandchildren, Christopher, Annabelle and Brycen Mullen, Hazel Holman, Carla and Lizzy Martin and Jaxson Hadley; as well as many dear friends, dedicated caregivers and extended family. John (Jack) was preceded in death by his wife of almost 50 years, Joanne Dorothy (Thibeault) Holt; parents, Carroll and Imelda McNeil Holt; brothers William “Bill”, Harkey and Thomas Holt and sisters Geraldine Quinn and Francis Rasmussen.

A memorial service celebrating his life will be held on August 16, 2025 at 12:00 at Demeritt Cemetery. Family and friends are encouraged to join in honoring his memory and legacy.

Friends and family are invited to share memories with the family at http://www.meaderandson.com.

Though his battle with illness was long, Jack never lost his warmth, humor, or courage. His life was a testament to strength, service, and love — and he will be dearly missed.
