WILTON — Selectmen will consider changes to the town’s recreational parks and facilities use policy after listening to comments from residents when they meet at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 1, at the town office.
The biggest change involves adding a no-smoking policy at the town’s four parks including Kineowatha, Bass Park, Bishop Park, Village View Park and the East Wilton ball field, Town Manager Rhonda Irish said.
No-smoking signs have been posted at some of these sites but there has been no policy or anything written down, she said.
Under the policy, Recreation Director Frank Donald would oversee enforcement of the policy, not the police, because this is not a town ordinance although some items within the policy mention and are governed by town ordinances. If it’s violated, he can ask people to put a cigarette out or leave, she said. The town will also consider whether it needs to become an ordinance and if so, bring it before voters during the town meeting next summer.
The policy includes a variety of items such as policies and fees, hours of operation, dogs, diving and swimming and special events held on town properties.
In other business, the board will sign a warrant for a special town meeting to take place at 7 p.m. Nov. 15 at the town office. During the meeting, voters will consider transferring about $7,000 from the undesignated fund balance to pay for roof repair at the town office.
While a new furnace was included in this year’s budget, a new roof wasn’t.
“It was a toss-up whether to replace a 32-year-old furnace or a 32-year-old roof,” she said. The board unanimously agreed to her recommendation to move forward and plan a special town meeting to finance the roof.
The board will also award the furnace bid for the town office Tuesday and again consider re-establishing the Wilton Conservation Commission.
