Ruth MacDonald Fogg
NORTH YARMOUTH – Ruth MacDonald Fogg, 89, of North Yarmouth, passed away peacefully on Sept. 6, 2025, in Portland, surrounded by her loving family.
Born on May 21, 1936, in Douglas, Massachusetts, Ruth was the youngest of six children born to Robert and Hazel (Scamman) MacDonald. At the age of 13, she moved to Maine and later graduated from Porter High School in 1954.
On Sept. 30, 1960, Ruth eloped with the love of her life, Joseph Fogg, to Freeport, Maine. The two shared nearly 62 wonderful years of marriage until Joseph’s passing in July 2022. Together, they raised their family in Auburn, before retiring to a quieter life in Monmouth in 2006.
Ruth was an avid quilter, a passionate gardener, and always had a puzzle in progress. She was feisty and forthright – never afraid to speak her mind – yet was quick with a laugh and had a remarkable ability to find humor in the everyday. A gracious hostess, she enjoyed the company of friends and family and was immensely proud of her children and grandchildren.
She is survived by her four children and their spouses: Marcia-Jo (Dave), Lynn (Rusty), Jill (Kevin), and Jason (Lindy); her 17 grandchildren: Seth, Ashley, Kate, Curt, James, Zachary, Lydia, Audrey, Lucy, Adam, Ben, Abigail, Paige, Virginia, Rose, Kailee, and Elijah; their partners; and 22 great-grandchildren. She also leaves behind her sister-in-law Janice Fogg; many beloved nieces and nephews; and cherished cousins Marjorie, Janice, Cindy, Claire, and Ann.
Ruth was predeceased by her husband Joseph; grandson Garrett; siblings Robert (Dottie), Frederick, Carol (Gene), Richard and Joanne (Lawrence); in-laws Merrill and Clara Fogg, Edwin (Barbara), Emily (Ed), Marilyn (John), Donnie (Beverly), Mo, and Ernie (Carol); and nieces Tanya and Rebecca, and nephews Danny and Archie.
A Graveside Service will be held in Ruth’s honor at 11 a.m., on Sept. 18, 2025, at Gracelawn Memorial Park in Auburn, Maine, as per her wishes. Arrangements are under the care of The Fortin and Pinette Group Funeral Home | 217 Turner Street Auburn, ME 04210 | (207) 783-8545.
The family extends heartfelt thanks to the staff of the Neuro ICU at Maine Medical Center for their exceptional care and compassion during Ruth’s final days.
