OTISFIELD — Several dogs perished in an early morning blaze at a mobile home on Oak Hill Road.

The home at 112 Oak Hill Road was significantly damaged in the fire, Maine Public Safety officials said, and a vehicle was destroyed.

However, nobody was hurt when flames were reported shortly after 2 a.m..

The cause of the fire was not known by Thursday afternoon. Early reports were that a car parked in the yard had caught fire and the flames spread to the mobile home.

The Office of the State Fire Marshal is investigating.

When crews first arrived, they found the home ablaze and called for help from a fire crew in Naples. They also requested that a sheriff’s deputy respond to the scene.

As crews first started battling the blaze, it was unclear if anyone was at home, fire Chief Kyle Jordan said. However, it was later reported that no one had been inside the home when it went up in flames.

All of the dogs were found dead when fire crews entered the burned mobile home, he said.

Investigators remained at the scene late Thursday afternoon.

Oak Hill Road is off state Route 121 at Spurrs Corner.
