Matt Duvall

Mathieu “Matt” Duvall, an education administrator and 24-year Auburn resident, is announcing his candidacy for Ward 3 city councilor.

Matt and his wife, Bev, moved to Auburn in 2000 to raise their family. “Auburn has given us so much, and now I hope to give back by serving on the City Council,” he said.

Duvall said he believes serving on the council means listening to residents, responding to concerns, making transparent decisions, and working constructively with the mayor and council to find fiscally responsible solutions.

“This is how good governance works and how to build trust,” he said.

Duvall said he believes Auburn’s priorities should include expanding affordable housing, supporting a strong school system, providing high-quality services, protecting the natural environment and drinking water, and ensuring Auburn remains a great place to live for people of all ages.

He earned undergraduate and graduate degrees in geology in Colorado and works at Bates
College as an administrator.

Active in the community, Duvall has coached his children’s sports teams, served on the Auburn Planning Board from 2019 to 2022, including as chair, joined the mayor’s ad hoc Housing Committee, and is on the Auburn Comprehensive Planning Committee, which is shaping a 10-year vision for the city’s future.

“I look forward to serving the people of Ward 3 and Auburn,” he said.
