Frances E. Chicoine

FARMINGTON – Frances E. Chicoine, 95, formerly of Jay, passed away Tuesday, Oct. 7, 2025, at Pinewoods Terrace in Farmington, surrounded by her loving family.

She was born on Nov. 21, 1929, in Springvale, the daughter of Raymond and Marie (Welch) Slater and Russell Cowan. Frances was a graduate of Livermore Falls High School.

On Sept. 30, 1950, at St. Mary’s Church in Riley, she married Clarence J. Chicoine of Chisholm. They enjoyed 64 years of marriage before his passing on April 20, 2015.

Frances worked as cashier at Sampson’s Supermarket and later at Hannaford in Jay. Frances loved to knit, every year she would make hats for the kids at the local schools so they could be handed out to those that didn’t have one. She also made other knitted items for family and friends.

Frances enjoyed socializing with her neighbors and others along the way in her daily travels. Above all else, she loved spending time with her family. Frances loved to buy school outfits for her grandchildren and then her great-grandchildren, her family always held a special place in her heart.

She is survived by her daughter, Deborah Baxter and her husband Bill of Leeds; grandchildren, Matt L’ltalien, wife Ranae of Sidney, Jami Heeremans, husband Bill of Jay, and Jenny MacIsaac, husband Jeff of Jay; six great-grandchildren, Isabelle, Silas, Andrew, Gabriella, Cameron and Kyle; sister-in-law, Arlene Landry and her husband Al of Jay.

She was predeceased by her parents; her husband, Clarence; and her son, Richard Chicoine in 1978; siblings, Raymond Slater, Patty Burgess, Robert and Paul Cowan; and beloved dog, Mojo.

Messages of condolence may be sent to: http://www.finleyfuneralhome.com. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 19 at Finley Funeral Home, 15 Church St., Livermore Falls. Visitation will be held from 12-1 p.m. prior to the funeral service. Interment Holy Cross Cemetery, 445 Park St., Livermore Falls.
