Auburn police are investigating reported gunfire Saturday night at a house on Pownal Road.

The homeowner reported hearing what sounded like gunshots and discovered two bullet holes in the house, according to a post on Auburn Police Department’s Facebook page.

Responding officers secured the scene, confirmed minor property damage consistent with gunfire, and ensured that no one was injured, according to the post.

Officers viewed multiple video recordings from nearby residences, which captured a vehicle traveling through the area at the time of the incident.

“At this time, we have no reason to believe this was a targeted act. The evidence suggests that this was a reckless and isolated discharge of a firearm from a passing vehicle,” the release stated.

“Auburn is a safe community, and we intend to keep it that way,” Chief Jason Moen wrote in the post. “Incidents like this are rare, and when they do occur, our officers respond quickly, thoroughly, and professionally.”

Auburn police continue to follow up on leads and ask that anyone with information about a dark-colored pickup truck seen in the area around 7:45 p.m. contact Detective Dennis Matthews at 207-333-6650 ext. 2059.
