As the parent of a Lewiston Middle School student with special needs, I will be voting for Marcel Leclair for School Committee at-large representative.
Marcel would be an advocate for all students and parents whose voices get lost in the shuffle of numbers and competing priorities, no matter what their concerns may be. His experience as a parent and grandparent who has advocated for his special-needs grandchild would give him an important perspective that is necessary on the School Committee.
As a member of the LGBTQ community, I fully agree with Marcel’s position on keeping girls’ and boys’ private spaces and sports separate in schools. Many children have been made to feel uncomfortable with the mixed-sex bathrooms in LMS, and no one is being respected or supported by policies that might be well-intentioned but have created discomfort and confusion.
Our children should not be treated as props for adults’ agendas. Let them be kids!
