Steve Cormier
PORTLAND – Steve Cormier passed away on Nov. 2, 2025, in Portland, following a brief illness, with loved ones by his side.
The youngest son of Donald and Susanne Cormier, Steve grew up in Gray and graduated from Gray-New Gloucester schools. Known affectionately as “Squid,” he was recognized for his quick wit and sharp sense of humor that kept those around him laughing. A passionate sports fan, Steve rooted enthusiastically for the Boston Bruins, the Red Sox, and his beloved San Francisco 49ers. In his spare time, he enjoyed golfing.
Steve worked in manufacturing in the Lewiston/Auburn area for over 30 years, forming lasting friendships throughout his career. His dedication and camaraderie left a lasting impression on many.
Steve and Laura married and had two children together: Ashley and Michael. Though they later divorced, they remained close friends. The loss of his son Michael in 2021 was a profound sorrow for Steve; the two shared a deep bond and spent countless hours watching sports together.
He was predeceased by his father Don and his son Michael.
Steve is survived by his daughter Ashley; grandchildren Eva and Preston; mother Susanne Welton; brother Sean and his wife Dawn; niece Hope; and special friends Laura and Jeff.
In keeping with Steve’s wishes, he gathered with family and friends for a cookout prior to his passing. No further services will be held.
Special thanks to PCAL (Portland Center for Assisted Living) for providing great care to our Steve.
