J.P. Estrella, a 6-foot-11 redshirt sophomore from South Portland, was injured during Tennessee’s 91-66 victory over Rice on Monday when he went down in a scrum of bodies in the first half and appeared to hurt his left knee.
Estrella entered averaging 17.3 points and 8.7 rebounds through three games. He missed most of last season because of a foot injury.

“He’ll do everything he can to get back,” Tennessee coach Rick Barnes told the Knoxville News Sentinel. “We’re just hoping that it’s nothing crazy, but other than maybe a hyperextended leg.”
The News Sentinel reported that Barnes said on his postgame radio show that Estrella “seemed fine, but we will wait and see.”

We believe it's important to offer commenting on certain stories as a benefit to our readers. At its best, our comments sections can be a productive platform for readers to engage with our journalism, offer thoughts on coverage and issues, and drive conversation in a respectful, solutions-based way. It's a form of open discourse that can be useful to our community, public officials, journalists and others.
We do not enable comments on everything — exceptions include most crime stories, and coverage involving personal tragedy or sensitive issues that invite personal attacks instead of thoughtful discussion.
