DEAR SUNSPOTS: I need your help once again. Thank you for all you do for everyone. I am with the Lisbon Area Christian Outreach Food Pantry in Lisbon Falls. We are a nonprofit, all-volunteer organization that provides services to about 40,000 people per year, including food, clothing, and assistance with medical bills, heating bills (both fuel and wood), and electric bills.

We also make sure our clients receive a holiday food basket with a turkey at Thanksgiving and Christmas. We provide Christmas stockings, hats and mittens to our clients’ children and have several programs for kids. The list goes on.

We rely on donations from individuals plus donations from clubs and other organizations. We can do this only if we have money in our account; that is why our fundraisers are so important to us.

We are asking for turkeys or money to buy them because they are hard to get this year. Call me at 216-3460 if you can help.

We also want to let you know we are planning our Christmas Craft Fair at the Lisbon Falls Baptist Church at 555 Lisbon St. on Saturday, Dec. 6, from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. For this event, we are renting tables to crafters for $22. Please call Debbie at 576-1109 to make arrangements. We will also have a bake sale, raffles and a silent auction. We have over $3,000 in gifts for the raffles and silent auction.

Lunch will be served, there will be craft tables for children, and Santa will be there from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.

ANSWER: The work you do for the Lisbon Falls community is impressive and I appreciate you and everyone who has a hand in helping. May you be blessed.

DEAR SUN SPOTS: My late father had “special occasion” newspapers he saved — not hoarder volumes — just 60-70 individual newspapers in fairly good condition.

The headlines report World War II ending, the moon landings, a lot regarding 9/11, and major elections, etc.

They are, for the most part, complete newspapers. He wanted to preserve a record of the day and not just that particular event.

We’ve called libraries, nursing homes, historical societies and posted them “free for the taking” on social media boards, but no one seems to want them.

It doesn’t seem right that these newspapers should find their way to a landfill, but that will be their fate if we can’t find them a home.

Do you know anyone who might be interested in old newspapers and one or two magazines?

We appreciate all that you do. — No name, Minot

ANSWER: I know a librarian/historian who is very interested. I have contacted him and he will email you. You are right, these publications should not be destroyed. I’m so glad to be of help!
