Sister Theresa B. Couture
BIDDEFORD – Sister Theresa B. Couture, Good Shepherd Sister, died peacefully at St. Joseph Convent in Biddeford on Nov. 25, 2025.
She was born in Lewiston on Nov. 9, 1932. Daughter of Romeo Couture and Blanche Poirier. Educated at St. Peter School and St. Dominic High School, she left after her graduation in 1951 to join the Roman Congregation of St. Dominic in Mortefontaine, France. Added to her religious training, she was a student at L’Alliance Francaise in Paris. After her Profession as a Religious, she attended Regna Mundi in Rome, Italy for advanced religious studies and returned to the United States in 1954 to complete her education in Boston, Mass.
In 1973, Sister Theresa had a second religious calling and joined the Good Shepherd Sisters in Bay View Saco, Maine. This led her to respond to various Church ministries and the needs of the time. She enjoyed: Teaching, Campus Ministry, School Administration, Social Work, Gerontology, Correctional Education in a Maine Prison and Adult Education in Biddeford, from where she retired. At that time, she became, until death, a mother and grandmother to immigrant families. LIFE TAKES us to many different places, but LOVE brings us HOME!
