NORWAY — The Southern Maine Biathlon Club and Western Foothills Land Trust will sponsor 3K and 5K preseason biathlon races on Sunday, Nov. 20, at Roberts Farm Preserve. Target practice will start at 9:30 a.m. and races will begin at 11.

Winter biathlons, which combine skiing and rifle shooting, test a Nordic skier’s strength, endurance and aim. Preseason biathlons, which combine running and shooting, are a way for competitors to stay in shape and get target practice before snowfall.

Thanks to the Southern Maine Biathlon Club, air-rifles will be available for use by competitors on site. Due to extensive trail work completed this summer by the land trust, new loop trail options are available for events like this one.

Southern Maine Biathlon Club and Western Foothills Land Trust offered a biathlon last winter, attracting adults and kids from as far away as Fort Kent. The winter biathlon is scheduled for Feb. 19 at the preserve, 64 Roberts Road.
