Gray Family Health Center announced late last week that it will close permanently on March 6.
The center, which is part of the Central Maine Healthcare network, will continue to offer health care services for the next two months. After that, patients will need to find a new primary health care provider.
Of the Gray center’s three current practitioners, Amy Bergeron and Manju Hilary will relocate to Topsham. The third, Ben Slocum, will leave Central Maine Healthcare. The center said in a prepared statement that it was “committed to seamlessly transitioning (Slocum’s patients’) care.”
Any testing or lab orders after March 6 will need to be signed by the patient’s new provider, and all results will be delivered directly to their office. Patients will be able to access their medical records after completing an authorization form on Central Maine’s website, or by calling 207-795-2480.
Jim Cyr, system director at Central Maine’s Corporate Communications Office, said Central Maine Healthcare declined to answer any additional questions related to the closure.
Gray Family Health Center is one of several rural health care providers in southern and central Maine to have closed its doors in recent months. In August last year, DFD Russell Medical Center in Bridgton shut down due to low reimbursement rates, workforce shortages and a lack of federal funding. In October, Central Maine shut down its care center in Manchester, while Northern Light Healthcare closed primary clinics in Waterville and Oakland.
