Two people, one with life-threatening injuries, were hurt Friday morning in a three-vehicle crash on Bethel Road in West Paris, according to the Oxford County Sheriff’s Office.

“At this time the crash remains under investigation; alcohol is likely a factor in the crash,” Maj. Dana Thompson of the Oxford County Sheriff’s Office said in a news release.

The crash was reported at about 6:30 a.m. Deputies determined that a Nissan Pathfinder driven by a 62-year-old West Paris man was traveling north on the road, also known as state Route 26, when it rear-ended a logging truck as the truck was making a left turn into a business, Thompson said.

The Pathfinder then crossed the center line and crashed head-on into a Subaru Outback in the southbound lane, he said.

The driver of the Pathfinder, whose name was not released, suffered serious and life-threatening injuries and was transported to MaineHealth Stephens Hospital in Norway by a Pace ambulance. His identity is being withheld at this time and until appropriate notifications can be made, Thompson said.

The driver of the 2007 Peterbilt tractor-trailer logging truck, which is registered to Chaplin Logging Inc. in Naples, was not injured. The driver of the Subaru Outback, a 55-year-old Sumner woman, received minor injuries, he said. She was taken by a family member from the crash scene. No names were released.

During the investigation, Bethel Road was closed for several hours.

The Maine State Police Commercial Vehicle Unit, Oxford County’s Sheriff’s Office crash reconstruction team and West Paris and Paris fire departments responded to assist in the investigation.
