NORWAY — Muriel R. Twitchell of South Paris, died peacefully early Sunday, Nov. 13, at the Norway Rehabilitation and Living Center, where she has been a resident for more than five years. The family wishes to extend their sincere thanks and appreciation to the staff at the nursing home for their loving care and devotion.
Muriel was born, Nov. 20, 1923, in Lewiston, the daughter of the late Romeo and Isabelle (Roy) Roy. She attended schools in West Minot, Buckfield and Norway. In her early adult years, she worked as a waitress then as an assistant housekeeper at the Western Maine Sanatorium in Hebron, where she also served as an observer in the U.S. Army Aircraft Warning Service. She was a Cub Scout Den leader for several years and belonged to the Swinging Bears Square Dancing Group. Prior to her entering the nursing home, she enjoyed spending Friday mornings (for at least 20 years) with her knitting group known as the “Muffinetts,” to many.
Muriel and her late husband, Edwin, were very proud parents of their six children. She was a compassionate mother and provided a loving home for her family. In addition to raising her own children, for many years she provided child care for many working families.
Muriel is survived by her six children, Lucien Twitchell of Mechanic Falls, Linda Small and her husband, William, of Oxford, Nancy True and her husband, Daniel, of Gray, Suzanne Tripp and her husband, Wayne, of Oxford, Dennis Twitchell and his wife, Robin, of Norway and Sallyanne Poirier and her husband, Donald, of Barrington, N.H.; 13 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.
