I am writing on behalf of Lewiston’s Ward 5 residents and businesses who are currently unrepresented.
After nearly a year of controversy surrounding the School Committee and City Council seat, the current council must restore public trust and follow the City Charter. Not respecting the charter will once again damage the confidence and trust of our local government.
Ryn Soule has already proven to Ward 5 residents that she is willing to serve and represent her constituents during the most difficult times Lewiston has ever faced. She has worked with all of her fellow council members, city staff and our police department. She gathered her signatures and ran an honest race without any controversy on her part.
Soule has put in the work, and residents went out to vote for her. It’s completely unfair that anyone passing in an application this week could be appointed over Soule. She deserves the right to continue serving another term. This decision is about fairness and respect for the rules that govern our city.
Going against the charter is a complete disservice to the city and to Ward 5. I urge the council to do what is right and appoint Ryn Soule.
