Sylvia Daniels

SABATTUS – Sylvia Daniels, 84, passed away peacefully in the early morning of Jan. 13, 2026, after brief illness. She was a lifelong resident of Maine, born in Bangor, received most of her schooling in Newport, with final year at Livermore Falls High School, and attained her BS 1963 at Farmington State Teachers College.

She enjoyed many summers in Nova Scotia, giving her the ability to break into true Cape Breton stepdancing whenever a Celtic dance tune played. She was the daughter of Rev. Homer and Evangeline Hughey, and will be missed by her soulmate, Tom Webb.

She leaves two daughters, Kimberley Shaw (Rebecca) of Boston, Mass., Kristin Haverlock (Robert) of Seattle, Wash.; two grandsons, Brenden and Isak; and nieces and nephews from her beloved late sister, Rona Leighton of Chalfont, Pa.; also her cousin, retired Capt. David Farnham (Carole).

She is known for her talent for baking, as well as her sewing and design skills, which were showcased at Camden Civic Theater productions through the 1980s. She had a vocabulary any editor would envy, and though her opinions would sometimes “throw sparks”, her opinions were always clear. She supported local animal shelters wherever she lived, always had a cat or two at home, and greatly enjoyed observing the wildlife from her home in Sabattus, where she spent the last 20 years of her life.
