We are fortunate to have a number of good, decent people running as Democrats against both Susan Collins and Paul LePage. However, given the millions of dollars that will pour in from out-of-state Republican donors, using limited Democratic resources, fighting with each other is self-defeating.
This isn’t a time for business as usual. What if Graham Platner ceded the Senate seat to Janet Mills and instead ran against Paul LePage? He has the background “cred” and persona that would really resonate in the 2nd District.
Might this be a moment where, for the good of the whole, Platner contributes his enormous popularity to run for, and win, a “lower level” but critical seat? Then, with several successful years in the U.S. House behind him, he would be more seasoned and with a level of political savvy that would make him the obvious best successor to Mills’ Senate seat.
