Following the military operation in Venezuela, the English journalist Ed Luce described President Trump as “drunk on power.” In her Vanity Fair interview, Trump’s Chief of Staff, Susie Wiles, described her boss as having “an alcoholic personality.” Trump agreed.

It should be obvious to us by now that Trump acts like a mob boss, corrupt to the core with no regard for our democracy or our law-based world order. But driving all his out-of-control behavior appears to be his “alcoholic personality,” always in search of a dopamine rush. Trump says that he does not drink, but clearly his behavior is that of a person with an untreated substance abuse disorder. Trump’s “fix” is power and control. He is always on the hunt for his next “rush.” One day the fix is Venezuela, the next day Greenland, then Colombia, Cuba, Mexico, etc. Nothing seems to be enough to satisfy his cravings. To make matters worse, he has plenty of enablers who never do an intervention to stop his wrecking ball behavior.

Trump’s destructive actions are his drug fix, but they are never enough. He is now on an out-of-control binge. There are stunning echoes of Hitler taking over one European country after another. This is what autocrats do. Look at Putin invading and trying to take over Ukraine and lusting for more of Eastern Europe.

Trump must be stopped legislatively for the sake of our democracy and our world order. He is simply unfit to be president of the United States of America.
