Raymond Joseph Martin

BATH – Raymond Joseph Martin, 99, of Bath, went to be with the Lord on Jan. 20, 2026.

Ray was born Nov. 17, 1926 in Mexico, Maine to Samuel and Alice Martin. He was the third born of nine children. He grew up in Mexico and Rumford, and worked at the local mill until his retirement.

Ray did two tours in the Navy – once in Korea and once during World War II. He was able to attend an Honor Flight with his son, Randy, in 2023 which he enjoyed immensely.

Ray married Laurette Roy in 1950. They had six children together and made their home in Mexico. Ray was very involved in the Hope Association which founded the Hope School, the Activity Center, the What Not Shop and three assisted living homes for handicapped adults.

After retiring, Ray traveled to Florida for the winters pulling his fifth wheel. He made lots of friends in Florida and was always surprised when he would run into a Mainer at the local church services.

Ray is survived by his son, Steve Martin and his wife, Louise, of Topsham, his daughter, Evelyn Gotto and her husband, Mike, of Ocala, Fla., his son, Randy Martin and his wife, Pam, of Leeds, his son, Gary Martin and his wife, Brenda, of Brunswick, his son, Jeff and his wife, Ramona, of Lake Frederick, Va.; 11 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
