The Maine Gladiators traveled this past weekend with productive results, earning two wins and a tie.

In a battle with the Maine Freeze at Sawyer Arena in Bangor, the Gladiators went up 3-1 after one period on goals by Austin Roy, Nate Granholm and Kyle Lussier. The Freeze got one back in the second period and tied it in the third, but an unassisted goal by Matt Brooks restored the Gladiators’ lead. The Freeze fought back to tie it, and the game ended at 4-4. Zack Vanderwerf, Lussier and Granholm logged assists for the Gladiators. Kyle Welsh was the Gladiators’ goalie.

After a two-hour break, the two teams went at it again. Ridge Servidio took over in goal and backstopped the Gladiators to victory. The first period was scoreless before the Gladiators built a 3-1 advantage in the second. Roy, Brooks and Griffin Wade scored the goals with assists to Tyler O’Conner, Kyle Morin, Roy, Kiana Melvin and Vanderwerf. The Freeze rallied with a goal in the third, but Morin picked up the eventual-game winner with assists from Brooks and Roy. The Freeze scored one more but it wasn’t enough to stop the Gladiators from skating off with a 4-3 win. It was a breakthrough win for the L-A team after a 4-1 home loss to the Freeze earlier in the season.

The Gladiators also avenged an early 8-1 loss to the Maine Moose with a 4-3 victory at Kents Hill. Morin scord two goals in the first period. Brooks had an assist. Roy later scored from Brooks, but it was sandwiched between two Moose goals that tied the game at 3. Brooks notched the game-winner in the third with help from Roy. Servidio and Welsh split time betwenen the pipes.

Next up for the Gladiators is the Icebreaker Tournament in West Springfield, Mass.
