Sen. Susan Collins deserves no kudos for her recent announcement of a “pause” of ICE activities in Maine. This was not an end to these police actions. With Collins it is always “too little, too late.” Her proclamation was made after more than 200 people in Maine were detained. How many of these individuals were criminals or gang members?

ICE activities have continued elsewhere. Where was Collins’ opposition when ICE invaded Los Angeles, Chicago, Minnesota and other cities?

Sen. Collins has supported, and still supports, ICE activity in Maine and nationwide. She wants to be seen as a  “moderate” Republican. However, just look at her record. She always supports the current administration when her vote needs to count.

Of the 200-plus people detained in Maine, what information has been released? Are they still in Maine?

Make no mistake, Susan Collins is a cog in the MAGA machine and does what is necessary to get Republican National Committee funding for her reelection campaign. On issues of civil rights, preserving democracy and voting rights, Collins falls woefully short. While other Maine elected officials hold town halls, Collins avoids face-to-face communications with Mainers. She plays the political game well and we are lesser for it. Hasn’t 30 years of Sen. Collins been enough?
