Mary V. Newton

BUCKFIELD – Mary Victoria Newton (Parr), 73, peacefully gained her heavenly angel wings on Sunday, Jan. 18, 2026. She had fought an eight-year battle with brain tumors and seizures. She stayed steadfast in her faith and never gave up the fight with a smile on her face and a giggle. To know her was to love her and she will be greatly missed by all of her family and friends.

Mary was born on Feb. 16, 1952, in Newmarket, England. She was the oldest child of Clifford and Muriel Parr of Fordham, England. She grew up and attended schools in Fordham, England. On Dec. 26, 1970, in Fordham Church, Mary married her United States Navy sailor, Second Class Petty Officer James Newton of Buckfield, Maine. Mary and James welcomed their first son, Daniel Emery in Newmarket, England, in June 1971. Mary embraced her new roles of wife and mother with strength and grace. They moved as a young Navy family to Guantanamo Bay, and Cuba, where Mary and James welcomed their second son, David Leonard in March 1976 who predeceased his parents in November 1976. They were transferred to Patuxent River, Md. where their daughter, Deanna Marie was born in December 1978. As their journey continued, they moved to Sigonella, Sicily and then eventually moved to Maine.

Mary’s most favorite thing to do was to take care of her family through cooking their favorite meals or teaching her grandchildren to cook traditional British treats. She thoroughly enjoyed watching the birds outside of her favorite window and teaching all of us about each type of bird. In the summers, she enjoyed tending to her flower and vegetable gardens. Mary always kept a positive attitude and a strong faith in her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Throughout her tough health condition, she always had a smile and would tell us “God is Good, All the Time” and she would remind us to “Trust in the Lord”.

Survivors are her husband of 55 years, James Newton of Buckfield; son, Daniel Newton and his wife Kristina of Buckfield, and daughter, Deanna Mozingo of Virginia Beach, Va. Mary loved and adored each one of her precious eight grandchildren, David Newton (wife Mickey, son Kevin), Karynna Mozingo, Brandon Newton (wife Meaghan), Alayna Mozingo, Grace Mozingo, Alexus Newton, Robbie Newton, Victoria Newton, and her favorite little guy her great grandson, Julius.

She is also survived by her sister, Marion Parker (husband Richard) of Soham, England, her brother, Mark Parr (wife Catherine) of Isleham, England, and brother-in-law, Wilbur Newton of Buckfield. Mary is also survived by aunts, uncles, nieces, nephew and many cousins residing in England, Tasmania and New Zealand.

Mary’s Celebration of Life will be at 1 p.m. on Sunday, Feb. 15, 2026, at Chandler Funeral Home, 45 Main St., South Paris, Maine. A graveside service will be held at 3:30 p.m. on Friday, May 15, 2026, at Damon Cemetery, N Buckfield Rd., Buckfield.

Arrangements are under the care of Chandler Funeral Homes and Cremation Service, 45 Main St., South Paris. Online condolences may be shared with Mary’s family at http://www.chandlerfunerals.com.
