Stephen R. Wrentzel
AUBURN – Retired Lewiston Firefighter Stephen R. Wrentzel passed away suddenly in his home Friday Nov. 28, 2025. He was playing chess with his son.
Born in Boston, Mass. on Dec. 7, 1962, he was adopted by the Rev. E. Richard Wrentzel and his wife Mary. Moving to East Auburn in 1975, Steve graduated from Lisbon Falls Christian Academy and attended college in Huntington, Ind. He married Deb Spofford and became a firefighter while they raised their daughter, Karen Wrentzel and son, Jeremy. Steve loved books, music, and hiking, and he instilled those passions in his kids.
Stephen was predeceased by his parents; and adopted sister, Elaine; as well as his daughter, Karen Wrentzel.
He is survived by his son, Jeremy Wrentzel and fiancé Alanna; as well his grandson, Alexander Wrentzel.
His mantra, if he had one, would be “Read More, Think More, Question Everything.”
Celebration of Life will be Monday March 2, at the Auburn VFW Post 1603, 588 Minot Ave., Auburn, from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m.
