Patricia Loretta Giguere Libby
FARMINGTON – Patricia Loretta Giguere Libby, 89, of Farmington, Maine, passed away on Tuesday, Feb. 17, 2026, in Auburn. She was born on Jan. 19, 1937, in Lewiston, the daughter of Ida (St. Laurent) and Robert Roland Giguere.
Patricia was a graduate of Lewiston High School (Class of 1955) and Gorham State Teachers College (Class of 1959). It was at Gorham that she met her true love, Gerald “Gerry” Glen Libby. The couple married on August 23, 1959, and began their teaching careers in Millinocket. In 1963, they moved to Farmington, where Pat made her home for the remainder of her life.
Pat learned to sew from her mother, an exceptional seamstress, and continued honing her skills for as long as she could remember, including sewing her own wedding gown. Her background in teaching, combined with her deep love of sewing—especially machine quilting—led her to work in the clothing laboratory at the University of Maine at Farmington. She later started her own sewing instruction business, The Crooked Seam, which she operated out of her home.
Pat also served in multiple roles with the Franklin County Extension and the Pine Tree Quilters Guild, and in 1978 she co-founded Maine Mountain Quilters with Virginia Morrell. Pat was an avid quilter, with a body of work numbering in the hundreds, enough to host a private quilting art show in 2018.
An active Grange member for an astonishing 75 years, Pat held many offices and committee assignments at Subordinate, Pomona and State levels. She will be best remembered for her time as Maine State Grange Secretary and her long and devoted tenure as Secretary of Farmington Grange.
She also enjoyed tenpin bowling and clogging, and valued the friendships and community that came with each of these pursuits.
She is survived by her sons, Kevin Libby and his wife Elizabeth, and Brian Libby and his wife Julie; seven grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. Patricia was predeceased by her beloved husband, Gerald Glen Libby.
A service to honor Patricia’s life will be held on Sunday, March 8, at 2 p.m. at the Farmington Grange, 124 Bridge Street, West Farmington, ME 04938.
