Auburn Water and Sewerage District officials were expecting to reopen East Hardscrabble Road by late Friday afternoon following a sewer main break, according to Michael Broadbent, superintendent of Auburn Water and Sewerage District.
Broadbent said the department received a call around 6:30 a.m. that water was spilling up onto the road. He said that after excavating the road, an inspection revealed the break involved sewage, not water.
Crews were able to turn off the flow and stop the leak, Broadbent said.
Broadbent said crews were backfilling the excavation early Friday afternoon and he expected the road would be accessible to motorists by Friday evening.
