Ari Fulton made a baseline jumper with .2 seconds remaining to give NJIT a 60-58 win over UMaine in an America East men’s basketball quarterfinal Saturday afternoon in Newark, New Jersey.
The game was close throughout, as neither team led by more than five points. NJIT (16-16), the No. 3 seed, went ahead 58-56 on a short jumper by Fulton with 31 seconds remaining, but Ace Flagg’s layup with 11 seconds to go tied the game for the sixth time in the final seven minutes.
Flagg led sixth-seeded Maine (8-24) with 14 points and eight rebounds. Keelan Steele (11 points) was the only other Black Bear in double figures. Maine played the second half without leading scorer T.J. Biel, who was injured in the first half.
Sebastian Robinson scored 21 points, David Bolden had 12 and Fulton finished with 10 for the Highlanders, who advance to play No. 2 seed Vermont in the semifinals.
