Federal agents on Tuesday raided a Park Street business that had previously been connected to a larger tax fraud investigation.

During the late morning and early afternoon, more than a dozen agents were seen entering the offices of Bright Future Healthier You at 95 Park St. Agents were seen leaving the building carrying boxes at about 4:45 p.m.

The behavioral health care provider had previously been named in connection with a tax fraud investigation that has already resulted in federal charges against several local people.

In February 2025, a federal grand jury returned an indictment charging three people — Abdifitah Abdi, Asmo Dol, and Rakiya Mohamed — with conspiracy to defraud the Internal Revenue Service.

Abdi, of Momo Interpreters in Lewiston, has pleaded not guilty to one count of conspiracy to defraud and one count of interfering with internal revenue laws.

Dol, mother of Rakiya Mohamed and an employee at Bright Future Healthier You, has since died and the case against her has been dropped.

Last week, Mohamed, 30, of Auburn, admitted to charges of filing a false tax return and interfering with federal tax laws.

Mohamed was the owner of Reliable Language Resources LLC, which she falsely reported had paid for more than $135,500 in “contract labor in 2018, and more than $320,000 in contract labor and office costs in 2019,” according to court records filed by the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Maine.

According to federal prosecutors, Mohamed had been doing work for Bright Future Healthier You, which provides interpretation services.

How Bright Future Healthier You is connected to the alleged fraud scheme remained unclear.

On Tuesday, after the raid, a lawyer for the company sent the Portland Press Herald court documents suggesting the government does not suspect Bright Future Healthier You of direct criminal conduct.

Attorney Michael J. Conley sent along a clarifying order that had been submitted in U.S. District Court on March 4.

“The court denies the motion to strike,” the document states, in reference to Bright Future Healthy You, “but clarifies that the indictment does not accuse the corporate entity of any criminal conduct.”

It was not immediately clear what, if any, evidence was taken from the Park Street office by federal agents. Witnesses said the agents appeared to be from Homeland Security, although at least one FBI agent was seen, as well.
