Without commenting on the legitimacy or need for the attack on Iran, I would like to ask why gas companies immediately raised the price of gas, charging the American people extra for gas the stations already paid for and had in their tanks?

They continue to raise prices based on the speculation about future delivery issues and the reduction in production based on the war.

The gas companies make billions of dollars in profits every year off the American consumer. So, where is it written that they, the gas companies, cannot make a little less profit for a short time and keep gas prices reasonable for the American consumer?

I am sure the gas companies could survive making a few million less in profits for a short time to help the American people with lower prices at the pump. They refuse any smaller profit for a short time and gouge the people at the pump.

Part of the problem is that many of our politicians are tied to big oil and would rather hurt the American people at the pump than ask their big oil friends to absorb the loss and take a slightly smaller profit for a short time.
