I just read a March 11 letter from a Maine voter who was dismayed at what what he sees as a lack of choice in the Democratic primary for the U.S. Senate (“Where are the true progressive candidates for Maine?”) . This particular voter felt neither of the frontrunners, Janet Mills or Graham Platner, offered much to voters interested in a more progressive candidate.

I decided, months ago, that neither of these candidates would get my vote. While I appreciate Mills’ service, I believe it’s time for a younger candidate; and while Platner is a young man, I am not comfortable with much of his background.

I have been impressed by what I have read about David Costello.

David is a Maine native, born in Bangor, and raised by his mother and grandparents in Old Town after the death of his father at a young age. Like many Mainers, David worked hard to pay for his education at the University of Maine, George Washington University and the London School of Economics. He has spent over 30 years in public service, in both government and non-government positions, here in the United States and throughout the word. This experience is invaluable, in my opinion, when seeking a position in the Senate.

I have never bought into the argument that we need candidates from outside the government. I feel that someone who has worked within the system knows from day one how to get the job done. I hope more voters will take a serious look at this exceptional candidate.
