Don’t be fooled by ICE and Border Patrol agents claiming they need to hide their identities. No other law enforcement agency is allowed to conceal identity while exercising power over people’s lives. ICE agents don’t want us to identify them in order to keep us from holding them accountable.
Accountability is not a threat, it’s the cornerstone of democracy. When officers operate without visible names or badge numbers, we cannot report misconduct, seek justice or ensure the law is being applied fairly. Immigration enforcement — given recent violence and deaths — demands more oversight, not less. Allowing anonymity erodes public confidence and opens the door to abuse. Transparency protects the public, and it also protects honest officers by building trust in the communities they serve.
When a nation values the rule of law, no one wields authority without being answerable for how they use it.
